Scambusters: Local Text Message Scam

We will never ask you for something we already have…

Messages are being sent to our members from local phone numbers with a 610 area code. The messages say they are from credit union services and are telling members that their card has been deactivated. The message directs the member to call another local phone number to reactivate the card. Apparently, when you call the number, you are asked to enter your 16 digit card number.

The credit union would not ask you to do this. These phony messages are attempts by criminals to steal your personal information.
