What is a Visa® Debit Card?
An Visa® Debit Card is a widely-accepted alternative to writing a check. You can use it to pay for purchases at any merchant displaying the Visa® logo that appears on the front of the card. The purchase price will be deducted from your Bethlehem Teachers FCU Share Draft (checking) Account.
When would I use my Visa® Debit Card?
There are many situations where writing a check is inconvenient, like when you're in the express line at the grocery store. Visa® Debit Card transactions are approximately five minutes faster than writing a check, since there's no need for check approval or identification.
Where would I use my Visa® Debit Card?
Your Visa® Debit Card can be used wherever a standard Visa® card is accepted--like grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants or retail stores. Use it when placing orders by phone. There are thousands of locations worldwide where your Visa® Debit Card is accepted.
What choices do I have at merchant terminals?
You may need to choose between a "CREDIT" or "DEBIT" button. These buttons determine how the merchant processes the transaction. Choosing the "CREDIT" option allows you to just sign and go If you choose "DEBIT", you will need to input your PIN number. Either way, the transaction amount will be deducted from your Share Draft Account.
Can my Visa® Debit Card be used at ATM machines?
Your Visa® Debit Card may be used to obtain cash at any ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) terminal displaying the Star or PLUS network logo.
Are there any fees associated with my Visa® Debit Card?
There are no charges when you use the card as a DEBIT or CHECK card, paying for purchases. When using the card as an ATM card, BTFCU allows each member eight transactions per month per card without charge. However, many banks and other ATM locations charge for use of their ATMs. There are some ATMs which do not charge for use. For a list of these 'free' ATMs, click here.
What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?
You can report a lost or stolen card 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by telephone.
HINT: To protect yourself in the event of losing important cards you carry in your purse or wallet, it is a good idea to photocopy all of the cards (front and back). Store the photocopy in a safe place for reference in case any or those items are lost or stolen.
